Exciting news!

Bertie, the mentor dog, is coming to work with the students at Brownhill Learning Community (Darnhill site).

Bertie is a one year old Cockerpoo and due to their gentle and sociable temperaments, Cockerpoos make ideal dog mentors; having a calming and positive effect on the individuals they work with. Bertie lives with Tracey and Ian Giles, two of our new members of staff at Darnhill. He completed the bronze stage of The Dog Mentor programme earlier this year with trainer Jenny Duckworth (www.thedogmentor.co.uk). Over time, it is hoped that the mentor dog will work with a variety of classes, small groups and in a 1:1 setting. We hope the staff and students will gain a great deal of enjoyment from having Bertie in school and that he will become an established part of life at Brownhill Learning Community.

We understand that some students might be frightened of animals and that some parents may not want their child to have contact with our dog, so please feel free to contact the school via email (info@theblc.org.uk) to let us know.
